Yes, the big trip South is over and no one set us on fire in London. The riots made it to Romford, and I was intrigued by the conviction of an eleven-year boy for theft from Debenhams on the marketplace. What did he steal? A £30 pedal bin. Given the opportunity to loot a department store, he chose a Brabantia. Obviously didn't know how hard it is to get the right bin bags.
Alex Salmond says that the Scots don't riot because they're different. My personal suspicion is that the Scots don't riot because it's always bloody raining. Three dry days so far this summer, and technically they were in Spring.
Meanwhile, I am frantically cleaning the house prior to the arrival of French people we have never met before. Alors! Then four days of Auld Alliance fun. Luckily most of our French guests can't distinguish between an English and a Scottish accent...
