The all-day event in Dumfries was a blast, and between 11am and noon I declaimed once to the town, read poems to 4 people who requested them inside the Poetry Porch (above) and stopped numerous people on the street and read poems to the 13 of them who decided to enter into the spirit of the day. All whilst handing out Poetry Postcards (courtesy of the Scottish Poetry Library) and Poetry Balloons (courtesy of Dumfries and Galloway Arts Association).
And the sun shone!
Hats off to Hugh McMillan for being the Primum Mobile behind the day, and to DGAA for helping make it happen.
Then I dashed off to work on the strike of 12, regrouping with the other poets in The Coach and Horses at 5pm.
Some other poets.
That's Doug Curren on the left, with poet, artist and publisher Hugh Bryden. Pictured in the least inspiring part of the Poetry Porch.
Meanwhile, my two youngest children wrote their first poems last night, unaided and unaltered by me, took them to school and were asked to read them to the class.
Hugh McMillan fervently converting non-believers to Poetry.
Hugh's postcard from the Scottish Poetry Library.
We should be doing this more often.
