I teach ESOL on Wednesday mornings to adult students at Mt Albert Baptist Church. Some of them come from the Guangzhou area, and I ask if they knew my ancestral home Kwong Ning. I told them my great grand father left China for Borneo more than 100 years ago.

They tell me I should visit the land of my roots. Last year, Guang Zhou which is 4 hours bus ride hosted the Asian Games. The 16th Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou of China from November 12 to 27, 2010.

Someday, I will visit and meet some of my cousins I have never met.

weekend bridge: Guangzhou (Guang Zhou) China

http://bayphoto.blogspot.com/

Guangzhou(Guang Zhou,) previously known as Canton is along Pearl river. There are ten bridges spanning across the river. The Pearl River has a length of more than 2,000 kilometers (about 1243 miles) and is the third longest river in China.

Thank you Francisca for pointing out that the correct way to spell Guangzhou is putting the two sounds together. I grew up in British Borneo were we anglicised words, and this is one old habit that I have not shed.
