watery wednesday: Water sprays

http://waterywednesday.blogspot.com/

During the run, 70,000 sweaty bodies raise the temperature by 2 degrees. Kind residents along the road sprayed welcoming water to cool us down during our Round the bays Run.

Weekend bridges: Round the Bay Run

As I was walking to the Round the Bays Run, I heard the train coming, got my camera out and almost missed the train as it zoomed into the tunnel bridge.

Ruby Red/Rednesday: New Zealand

The New Zealand Flag.

http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com

http://www.suelovescherries.blogspot.com/

Today is a week since our Christchurch city was struck by the earthquake.

Today, at 12.51pm, the nation will observe a 2 minutes silence. The Mayor has asked even traveling vehicles to stop where they are . "The two-minute silence at 12.51pm is really about whatever you are doing, stop ... and we all stand together as one," he said.

It is going to be a very somber feeling as we pause and reflect and think how we are going to move forward.

Addition:

Our principal assembled all 660 students and teachers under our big tree. It was in the mid of our lunch hour. The weather was hot, most of the kids were in the sun. The kids all came early. We were waiting, when a neighbor went hammering. Our principal went to the fence and told him about the 2 minutes silence. He soon stopped.

We started our silence, and a church bell tolled from far away. The kids were very good. We had a few handicap kids on walkers and clutches. Only an aspergers boy remained in the play ground.

The principal thanked the students for giving up part of their lunch hour.

Sunday bridges: Tunnel under Spaghetti junction

http://bayphoto.blogspot.com/

Last Sunday, I showed you part of the Spaghetti junction in Auckland. This is another part of it which looks like a tunnel.

When I drive through this, I always think of the tunnel that links Detroit in USA and Windsor in Canada which I used when I was a student at the University of Windsor.

watery wednesday: Car wash

http://waterywednesday.blogspot.com/

This guy loves his car very much. Everyday including Sunday. I drive pass this car wash, and pretend I don't see it because I don't wash my car. I tell everyone when I was 6, my dad had a fiat, and every Saturday afternoon, all of six of us children were very enthusiastic in washing the car.

Today, my Italian student came back after returning to Italy for 2 years. I was teaching my adult ESOL students on registering their new ownership, and I talked about my Dad's fiat.

In Singapore, they term a man's car his other wife.

When the various motorways of Auckland converge into the city, it looks like spaghetti. Hence known affectionately as the Spaghetti Junction.

These wild flowers grow like a field in my neighborer's garden in Summer. They are taller than a person. This year, I left my garden and the planters for my computer. Their seeds have germinated and become miniature plants about two feet tall in my garden and planters.

Do you know what their names are?

I suppose I could make a fortune if I leave my computer and cut them and have a little stall selling wild organic flowers. But alas, the computer has a grip on me, and my blogging friends are worthed more to me than getting a few bobs trying to pick the flowers. Besides, the stems and leaves will make me very itchy.

watery wednesday: diving from a pier

This boy, aged 8 jumped more than 20 times. I told his dad that he was a brave boy. His dad replied he was stupid. He wanted to jump from the pole, his dad stopped him.

Here the dad jumped from the pole.

ruby red/rednesday: Red Sea Link ferry

http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com

http://www.suelovescherries.blogspot.com/

Waiheke Island is a picturesque blend of farmland, forest, beaches, vineyards and olive groves. Located in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand, it is only 35 minutes by ferry from downtown Auckland. There is a great range of activities on Waiheke including sightseeing, mountain biking, sea kayaking, vineyard & winery tours and much more.
SeaLink operates car and passenger ferry services to Waiheke Island from Half Moon Bay and to Great Barrier Island from Auckland city. Waiheke Island ferry is a 35 minute trip from downtown Auckland or 45 minutes from Half Moon Bay to Kennedy Point on the car and passenger ferry.

Yesterday was our Auckland Anniversary day. I went back to Half Moon Bay and a Sea link ferry was just pulling in. People and cars were queuing a long time to board. It did looked as though it had come in from another country.

I remember the ferry in Rejang River in Borneo. We were among the first to cross the river because it was near where my grandma lived.

Watery Wednesday: Block House Bay 2

http://waterywednesday.blogspot.com/

At the same beach at Block House bay I was curious at the two parallel bars. A local gentleman told me they were the remnants of the old surf boat ramp. At the sea end, the bars were covered with oysters.

The water engineer says there are sewage in the harbour, and that stopped me from harvesting the delicious morsel.

http://msredneck.blogspot.com/ The Japanese Redneck's comment reminded me of once when I ate delicious fat raw oysters in a hotel in Singapore. As I am a greedy pig when it came to raw sea food, I ate just the oysters and no carbo or anything else that evening. I asked the waiter if the oysters came from New Zealand, and he replied,"No, grown locally in our waters."

Boy!!!!! did I pay for it for the next 48 hours. The oysters were coming out from both outlets. Since then, I always eat some carbo before I pig myself out with any sea food.

At the Winter Gardens in the Auckland Domain, you see flowers at all season. Here tulips have opened up, not the usual bud that you get from the florist shop.

Weekend bridge: Mangere Bridge

http://bayphoto.blogspot.com/

Managere Bridge from Hillsborough Park. A new bridge was built along side the old bridge so when you travel on it, you don't realise that there are actually two bridges.

Over at another Park, I want to show you how Christmas is celebrated Down Under in New Zealand. It is summer here, and we have lots of Christmas in the park and Candle light in the park. This one is taken at Rocket Park where my Church Mt Albert Baptist Church entertained a crowd of four thousand last night.
