Now That's What I Call A Poetry Pamphlet

Last night was the launch of a month-long exhibition at the Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries of images by Hugh Bryden created in response to poetry. It includes his illustrations and designs for the poetry books and pamphlets Hugh produces through his own Roncadora Press.

Even better, things kicked off with readings from Hugh McMillan and Graham Fulton, both of whom have new pamphlets released by Roncadora.
Here's Hugh McMillan's Cairn.

This is Hugh Bryden. He is the good-looking Hugh with the moustache.

This is Hugh McMillan. He does not have a moustache and is a great poet.
You can find him, and his books, here: http://drumsleet.blogspot.com/

I shamefully failed to get a decent picture of Graham Fulton, and I don't think he'd thank me for posting the 'blurry man in a black shirt' shot. But I did buy his new pamphlet, Black Motel/The Man who Forgot How to.

And here's Jean Atkin. Her new pamphlet, Lost at Sea, is on the bottom shelf of the cabinet next to her.

It was an evening to remember: Hugh and Graham performed brilliantly and I laughed far too much, both poets demonstrating that poetry not only moves us, it also entertains us.

I also drank too much red wine, but we'll gloss over that.

There are two more evening readings to come whilst the exhibition is running:
Jean Atkin and Andrew Forster on Wednesday 16th and John Burns and Rab Wilson on Wednesday 2nd March.

Here's a few more, not terribly well-photographed, images of the exhibition.

And if, like these ladies, you want to buy (recommended: the books are beautiful) you can find Roncadora Press publications here: http://www.hughbryden.com/?cat=26
