The Queen of The South

As you know, I had three hours to spare in Dumfries on Saturday, so I went for a walk.
Dumfries lies alongside the river Nith and is a town on its uppers; though on a sunny day, with a biased photographer, that may be hard to tell.

The auld brig, Devorgilla Bridge.

The view from the bridge looking south-east.

The view from the bridge looking north.

The fabby turrets of the Court House.

Then I nipped into the Tourist Information Centre, where they have a wall-length quilt.

And marvellous stained glass

In the courtyard, a sundial and a half.

Lunch at The Old Bank, where they have a proper Ladies' Powder Room.

A small outdoor market on Saturdays: decided against a new (reconditioned) oven.

Met a pair of Shar-peis.

Decided against a T-shirt

Stunning sandstone Greyfriars Kirk (some history here:

Then onto the Vennel, which leads back down to the river.

So many unoccupied shops they've painted the shop fronts to give a more pleasing aspect.

Great graffiti

The back of The Whitesands

Then back across the bridge and a view of The Caul.

Robert Burns Centre (with small cinema) just along the road from here. Boys collected, job done.
